Summary

To mark its one-year anniversary in Qatar, the Brookings Doha Center hosted a reception at the Four Seasons Hotel for friends and colleagues who had supported the center’s mission throughout its first year of operation. Guests of honor included, on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Mutib Al-Rumaihi, Assistant Foreign Minister for Follow Up Affairs, and on behalf of the Brookings Institution, Carlos Pascual, Vice President for Foreign Policy Studies, and Martin Indyk, Director of the Saban Center for Middle East Policy.

The reception was attended by diplomats, academics, businessmen, and media representatives. Also attending the celebration were Washington-based Brookings scholars Navtej Dhillon, Fellow at the Wolfensohn Center for Development and Director of the Middle East Youth Initiative at Brookings; Elizabeth Ferris, Senior Fellow in Foreign Policy and Co-Director of the Brookings-Bern Project on Internal Displacement; Stephen Grand, Fellow at the Saban Center for Middle East Policy and Director of the Project on U.S. Relations with the Islamic World; Kristin Lord, Fellow at the Saban Center; and Tamara Wittes, Senior Fellow at the Saban Center for Middle East Policy and Director of the Middle East Democracy and Development Project.

Carlos Pascual, Martin Indyk, and Hady Amr, Director of the Brookings Doha Center, addressed the audience. They highlighted the achievements of the Brookings Doha Center throughout the past year and its goals for the future. They also emphasized the importance of the Brookings tradition of independent, high quality policy analysis and thanked the State of Qatar for its support for the mission and vision of the center.
