The World Food Programme’s 2025 Global Outlook reported that over 343 million people worldwide were food acute—10% higher than in 2023—despite advancements in technology and growing awareness of environmental and humanitarian imperatives. Global food systems remain vulnerable and continue to buckle under the weight of compounding crises—climate change, conflict, economic instability, and resource depletion. To address these challenges, innovation, sustainable practices, and collaborative action are essential to reshaping the global food security agenda and ensuring a future where no one goes hungry. State actors, like Qatar, as well as international organizations and the private sector, continue to play an important role in addressing challenges such as inadequate resource distribution, fragmented global cooperation, and systemic inefficiencies.
In collaboration with the Middle East Council on Global Affairs (ME Council), Qatar Charity convened a high-level panel to explore the critical intersection of innovation, sustainability, and policy in tackling food insecurity. With Qatar’s longstanding commitment to supporting sustainable food production systems and reducing waste, this session examined how global and local solutions can address the structural and immediate challenges of food security. The discussion focused on: How can food security policy foster innovation and reduce waste? How can governments ensure sustainable food supply chains while preserving environmental resources? What role can Qatar play in the global fight against hunger? How can regional and global partnerships ensure equitable access to food in crisis-hit areas? By fostering meaningful dialogue and sharing evidence-based insights, this session aims to contribute to the global push for sustainable solutions to one of humanity’s most pressing challenges.
