The Middle East Council on Global Affairs, in collaboration with the Rethinking Yemen’s Economy project—a joint initiative by DeepRoot Consulting, the Sana’a Center for Strategic Studies (SCSS), and the Center for Applied Research in Partnership with the Orient (CARPO)—co-organized a high-level closed roundtable. This event brought together representatives from the Development Champions Forum (DCF), policymakers, academics, development institutions, and think tanks to exchange insights on Yemen’s evolving political and economic landscape.
Amid renewed regional peace efforts, the roundtable was convened to develop policy recommendations and pragmatic solutions to address Yemen’s most pressing political and economic challenges. The discussions examined how economic policies could support the peace process while addressing significant financial and governance issues, including international sanctions, public revenue management, banking sector constraints, and salary payments.
The roundtable also explored Yemen’s broader economic future, particularly the potential for greater engagement with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. It emphasized opportunities to strengthen economic ties and utilize post-conflict reconstruction as a means to achieve long-term stability and growth. Participants also evaluated Qatar’s potential role in mediation efforts and its contributions to Yemen’s recovery and reconstruction.
